Description
46 and 48 Appleby Road is a building consisting of a mill house and a cottage, dating from the 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The structure is made of wet-dashed rubble and features a graduated slate roof with rendered chimneys that project at the north end. It has two storeys.
No 46, the cottage, is a single bay with a full-height canted bay window and a door located at the rear. No 48, the house, is symmetrical with five bays. It has a central panelled door framed by a corniced wooden architrave, with two sash windows on each floor, some of which still have the original wide glazing bars.
Inside No 48, there is a cut-string dog-leg staircase with three flights, square newels, turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and scrolled tread-ends. The interior also features original eight-panel doors.
