Description

Furness Abbey, including all medieval remains in the care of English Heritage, is the site of a Cistercian abbey established around 1127 and remaining in use until approximately 1500. The abbey features extensive remains made of red sandstone, including St Mary's Church, the chapter house, the infirmary, and various domestic buildings. These structures are now preserved and managed by English Heritage. The site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
