Description

The remains of the West Gate to Furness Abbey date back to the 14th century and are constructed from red ashlar sandstone. Currently, only the side walls remain, which rise to a fragmentary first-floor structure. Some arch springers are still visible, along with openings on the first floor. The gatehouse is adjoined by substantial sections of the Abbey Wall and is part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
