Description

Oaklands is a large house built between 1913 and 1914 for Vickers Ltd. It is constructed of coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and has a graduated slate roof. The building has two storeys and features five windows on the first floor. The design includes two parallel ranges that are offset to create re-entrant angles at each end.

On the garden front, there are large quoins and an off-centre doorway, which is flanked by single-storey bay windows that have four 1-light sections, complete with mullions, transoms, and stained-glass transom lights. These are topped with oversailing, embattled parapets and string courses. The first floor has paired and single sash windows with stained-glass upper lights, along with a central stair-window that features two transoms and stained glass. The eaves have a chamfered band, and the gables are adorned with shaped kneelers and ashlar copings. The ends of the building have corniced stacks.

The entrance front is less regular, featuring a 20th-century door set within a broad segmental arch that has a keystone and hoodmould. Above this, there are three-light mullioned windows, and a corbelled lateral stack on the left. Various other windows, mostly plain sashes, are present. In the re-entrant angle on the left, there is a small bay window with three 1-light sections that matches the style of the other windows.

Inside, the house features some oak panelling and an oak staircase.
