Description
Chapel Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse located in Wetheral Cotehill. It features clay and sandstone walls with a slate roof that was originally thatched, and has a central brick chimney stack. The building is one and a half storeys high and consists of four bays. The west wall facing the road is made of sandstone rubble and includes filled two-light mullioned windows and an entrance. Currently, there are three 20th-century windows in 19th-century openings, which provide light for attic bedrooms, in what was likely the barn or downhouse. The east front has walls made of a mix of clay, sandstone, and straw, resting on sandstone footings, and is all whitewashed. This side has a 20th-century door and windows in 19th-century openings. The name "Chapel Farmhouse" comes from a Methodist Chapel that was once located across the road but has since been demolished. The listing does not include the adjoining barn.
