Description
Barrockside is a farmhouse dated 1694, inscribed with P & GS (Skelton) and featuring the Skelton coat-of-arms. It has undergone alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building has painted roughcast walls with V-jointed quoins, topped by a graduated greenslate roof that includes ashlar and brick chimney stacks. It is two storeys high with three bays, plus an additional bay on the right under a common roof. There is a rear double-span extension from the 19th century. The main entrance features a top-glazed panelled door set in a painted stone architrave with an inscribed lintel. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, framed in 18th century painted stone architraves. Below the eaves, remnants of the surrounds for now-blocked 17th century windows can be seen. The extension includes a 20th century door and sash windows with glazing bars in 19th century painted stone surrounds. The rear span has sash windows in late 19th century painted stone surrounds. The adjoining barns are not of interest.
