Description

The road bridge at Cumwhinton Station was built in 1875 and designed by engineer J S Crossley. It is constructed from red sandstone coursed rock-faced rubble, featuring a brick soffit to the arch. This single arch bridge has a continuous band at road level and cambered wing walls on either side. It was built for the Settle-Carlisle line of the Midland Railway and remains an unaltered example of a road bridge, contributing to a strong group value in the area.
