Description
Cumwhinton Station is a disused railway station built in 1875. It is constructed from red sandstone ashlar and features slate roofs. The main building is located on the downside and is a single storey structure. It has a central booking office with a glazed front, flanked by gables that contain three light sash windows. Each end of the building has a further bay with a lower roof line and a two light window. The gables are adorned with elaborate pierced bargeboards, and there are ashlar stacks with weathering. The upside of the station retains a small shelter that is designed in a similar style. Cumwhinton Station was built for the Settle-Carlisle line of the Midland Railway and, although it is closed, it remains unaltered and little damaged.
