Description

This is a late 18th-century building, comprising two properties, 28 and 30 High Street, Maryport. The building is roughcast with rusticated quoins and a coped gable end to the right. It has a stone eaves cornice. Number 28 features a single three-light window on each floor, with stone surrounds and no glazing bars. Number 30 has two original windows with stone surrounds and a later, single window to the ground floor, also without glazing bars. The front door to Number 30 is set within a stone surround, shared with the passage, and has chamfered reveals; it is approached by two steps. A stone coped plinth runs along the base. The modern front door to Number 28 is topped by an open modillion pediment, with grooved paterae, pilasters with moulded capitals, and a Gothick-style fanlight. Number 30's fanlight is rectangular and has been painted over. The mother of Lord Lister was born at Number 28 on January 29, 1792.
