Description
This is an 18th-century house located in Maryport, Cumbria, a town developed from a smaller settlement and harbour established by Humphrey Senhouse in the 1730s to serve local coal mining, iron industries, and shipping. The town, initially known as Ellenfoot (Alnfoot), was renamed Maryport in 1756 after Humphrey Senhouse’s wife. Maryport expanded through the 19th century with shipbuilding and other industries, but declined after the 1920s. Senhouse Street, retaining its historic layout, is a notable area with early 18th and 19th-century buildings.
The house is a two-storey building with a rendered facade and a stone slate roof. It has stone window surrounds with chamfered reveals. The ground floor features two windows either side of a central entrance. The entrance doorway contains a 19th-century four-panel door surmounted by a small cornice supported on brackets. The first floor has three windows.
