Description
12, 14, and 16 Devonshire Street are two shops with commercial premises above, built in the 1860s, with No. 12 dated 1864 on its cornice brackets. The buildings are constructed from calciferous sandstone ashlar, featuring pilasters on No. 12, along with sill bands and an eaves cornice. No. 12 has a solid parapet and a shaped full dormer, while the roofs, likely slate, are hidden from view. Nos. 14 and 16 have a mansard roof with boxed dormers. The structure is three storeys high, with No. 12 comprising three bays and Nos. 14 and 16 having two bays, although they function as one shop. No. 12 retains its original ground floor shop window and through-archway, both with rounded arches and a central colonnette. The first floor features round-arched sash windows with dividing colonnettes, all under a continuous shaped hoodmould, and a mock balcony with patterned cast-iron railing. The second floor has sash windows set in stone architraves. Between the floors, there is late 19th-century lettering for the hairdresser M. Le Gall. The ground floor of Nos. 14 and 16 has a 20th-century shop window within the original pilastered surround. The first-floor sash windows have rounded arches and are also in stone architraves. The interiors have not been inspected.
