Description
Nos. 4, 6, and 6A on Lowther Street is a house that has been converted into two shops with retail units above. It dates from the 1830s or 1840s and has undergone later alterations. The building features Flemish bond brickwork with light headers and a stone eaves cornice made of calciferous sandstone. It has a graduated greenslate roof, and the original end brick chimney stacks have been reduced in height. The structure is three storeys tall and consists of three bays. The central doorway leading to the upper floor and the flanking shop windows are early 20th-century alterations to the ground floor. Above, there are sash windows set in stone architraves, with the upper floor windows being smaller. The interior of the ground floor has been extensively altered. The building is included for its group value.
