Description

Devonshire Chambers is a pair of shops with offices above, built in the 1860s. It is constructed of calciferous sandstone ashlar, featuring a bracketed sill band and eaves cornice. The roof is slate, partly mansard, with 20th-century dormer windows. The building has three storeys and six bays. An off-centre 20th-century door and fanlight are set within an original moulded round-arched surround, which is adorned with a carved name panel reading DEVONSHIRE CHAMBERS. Flanking the door are 20th-century shop windows contained within original stone surrounds. The first-floor windows are paired round-arched sash windows, with the windows above the shop fronts featuring a central colonnette with leaf capitals. Further sash windows are set within stone architraves on the upper floors. The ground floor interior has been altered.
