Description
Bank Court consists of four houses that were originally a bank and three residences, built in the early 19th century for Carrick & Lee, Solicitors and bankers. The former bank, which faces Main Street, features weathered calciferous sandstone ashlar with rusticated quoins, while the houses behind are made of dressed red sandstone, with some parts rendered. The property has a common slate roof and rendered chimney stacks. It is two storeys high, with two bays on Main Street, and the houses include both single and two-bay designs. The former bank has a four-panel door set in a projecting stone porch, which has a shouldered architrave, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are surrounded by plain stone. There is a moulded cornice with a pedimented gable above. On the side wall, there is a cast-iron street sign reading "BANK COURT," dating from 1896. The houses feature 20th-century doors and either two-pane or single-pane sash windows.
