Description

31 and 33 Main Street is an early 19th-century shop and house. The ground floor is finished with incised stucco, while the upper part is built of dressed red sandstone, with raised quoins on the right-hand side. The roof is slate-covered, and there are 20th-century brick and rendered chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has two bays on each side. Number 31 has a six-panel door with a simple surround, flanked by 19th-century shop windows. The left window is a three-pane sash, and the right window is a casement with glazing bars. There are 20th-century shop windows and entrances to the side. Number 33 also has a six-panel door with a plain surround. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, have shutter hinge brackets to the ground floor and painted stone surrounds above. The building is listed for its group value.
