Description

No. 18 Fisher Street is a late 18th-century building that has been divided into shop units. It features Flemish bond brickwork with light headers on a painted stone plinth, V-jointed painted stone quoins, and an eaves cornice. The roof is covered with 20th-century tiles, while the original ridge and end brick chimney stacks remain intact.

The building is three storeys high with five bays and a double-depth plan. The sixth bay was originally part of a separate house, which is indicated by a dividing quoined pilaster and an entrance from Long Lane. The central entrance has a panelled door and a radial fanlight set in an open-pedimented columned doorcase, accessed by steps. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set in brick reveals with painted stone sills and flat brick arches.

On the right return wall facing Long Lane, there is an off-centre panelled door with a radial fanlight in a pilastered surround featuring false imposts and a keystone, also accessed by steps. There is an inserted 20th-century door to the left, along with irregular sash and casement windows, including an upper floor staircase window with a round-headed arch.

Inside, the building has panelled doors in fluted surrounds and moulded plaster ceiling cornices. The original wooden staircase features slender turned balusters and a moulded wooden handrail, while some first-floor rooms contain marble fireplaces.
