Description
No. 22 Fisher Street is a house that has been converted into a club, café, and shop. It dates from the early 19th century and features Flemish bond brickwork on a chamfered red sandstone plinth. The building has a 20th-century tile roof with gable dormers and a 20th-century brick chimney stack. It is two storeys high, with five bays and a double-depth, central-stair plan.
The central entrance consists of a panelled door and overlight set within a prostyle Ionic porch that has a wreathed frieze, accessed by external stone steps. To the right, there is a panelled through-passage door with a radial fanlight in a stone surround. The windows are sash style, featuring glazing bars, set in brick reveals with red sandstone sills.
Inside, the building has moulded plaster ceiling cornices in the hall and principal rooms, although some walls have been knocked through. Each front window has panelled internal shutters. The staircase features scrolled wrought-iron balusters with a moulded wooden rail. An adjoining 20th-century YMCA hall is not included in this listing.
