Description
This is a terrace of five houses, numbered 85 to 93, located on Warwick Road in Carlisle. The houses were built in the 1830s and one currently serves as a surgery. They are constructed of Flemish bond brickwork; Nos. 85-89 have light-coloured brick headers. The houses sit on a chamfered stone plinth and have a common stone cornice. The dressings are painted stone. The roof is of graduated greenslate with some gabled and boxed dormers and 20th-century skylights, and the original ridge chimney stacks remain.
Each house is two storeys high and has two bays. The original panelled doors are present, although some have been replaced. Nos. 85 and 87 retain their original patterned fanlights, set within pilastered surrounds with false keys and imposts. The remaining houses have fanlights within stone surrounds set within round brick arches. Most of the sash windows have been replaced with 20th-century casements. Nos. 85 and 87 retain their original windows in brick reveals, while the rest are set within stone architraves. No. 87 has been altered to block a paired doorway and incorporate a window. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is depicted on the 1842 Studholme map of Carlisle.
