Description

The Gill is a farmhouse dated 1740, featuring the initials JBA on a keystone, with an early 19th-century extension. The building has quartz pebble-dashed walls resting on a red sandstone plinth, complemented by large red sandstone ashlar quoins, a string course, and stone dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate, with coped gables and kneelers.

The structure is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with the extension to the right also comprising two bays under the same roof. The 20th-century glazed door is framed by a vertical and horizontal V-shaped rusticated surround, which includes flat arch voussoirs, a keystone, and a moulded cornice. The sash windows, which feature glazing bars, have plain stone surrounds from the early 19th century and were altered from three bays to two bays during the extension. The pebble-dashing conceals previous alterations.

There is a small pantry window in the extension, and at eye level on the quoin stone at the junction with the extension, there are roughly incised letters IS, WS, and the year 1827, which may indicate the date of the extension. A 20th-century extension at the rear is not included in the listing.
