Description

This boundary stone and gatepost, located in front of Flosh Cottage, dates from the early 19th century. It is a painted squared stone post with a shaped top. The post is inscribed with the letters W.A.B.C. (with the C altered to an O) and S.E.H, divided by a central line. The lettering, highlighted in black, is believed to refer to Wigton Above and Below the Cross; South End Hamlet. For further details, see T.W. Carrick's "History of Wigton," published in 1949, page 56.
