Description

The Wigton Pump is a former market-place pump located in Wigton Public Park. It dates from the Victorian era and features an inscription on a cast-iron plate that reads, "Ye Olde Wigton Pump Re-erected 1924." The pump is made of cast iron and has a fluted tapering column with a shaped cap and a projecting angled nozzle. There is a pump handle at the rear and a circular patterned cast-iron bracket designed to support buckets. The pump was moved from the market place in 1872 and was stored until it was re-erected. It has group value with the nearby lamp-post, which also originated from the same location.
