Description

The Market Lamp Post is a Victorian gas lamp-post that was originally located in the market place of Wigton. It is made of cast iron and features a fluted and decorated circular column set on an octagonal plinth. The lamp post is topped with ladder brackets and an octagonal lantern, which currently lacks glazing or fittings. Around the base of the column, there is a raised inscription that reads "EX FUMO DARE LUCEM," although the rest of the inscription, including the name of the ironworks and the date, is illegible. The lamp post was moved from its original location in 1872 and was re-erected in 1924. It has group value with the nearby village pump from the same location.
