Description
A row of eight houses, plus one on Chiswick Street, forming an L-shaped terrace, built in the late 1840s or early 1850s. The houses are constructed of Flemish bond brickwork with light-coloured brick headers on a chamfered stone plinth. The dressings are of calciferous sandstone, some of which has been painted, and the roofs are covered in Welsh slate, with a hipped roof on the corner house and skylights, one incorporating a gabled dormer. Original shared brick chimney stacks are present.
The houses are two storeys high, with two bays each, except for numbers 35 and 2 Chiswick Street which have three bays. Number 35 has a rounded corner bay and a two-bay return on Chiswick Street. Each house has a left-hand panelled door, some of which have been replaced, and an overlight within a Tuscan porch. The windows are sash windows, many retaining glazing bars, set within brick reveals with stone sills and flat brick arches. Number 49 has a full-height canted bay window. Numbers 35 (now divided into 35 and 35A) and 2 Chiswick Street have central doors, but otherwise share similar features with the rest of the terrace. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is documented in Asquith’s Survey from 1853.
