Description
Arkle House is a building that dates from 1874 and is currently used as an office. It features English garden wall bond brickwork on a chamfered plinth, with all dressings made of calciferous sandstone. The building has a brick cornice with modillions and a central shaped pediment. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and there are original brick chimney stacks at each end.
The house is two storeys high and has three bays, with a central-stair, double-depth plan. The entrance features a central panelled door and fanlight set within a carved porch supported by twisted columns, topped with a cornice and fret parapet. To the left, there is a canted bay window that extends from the basement. The other windows are two- and three-light sashes, each with dividing pilasters, shaped lintels, and relieving brick arches. A full dormer window with three lights mirrors the details of the other windows, and the pediment includes a circular date plaque and a ball finial. The interior has not been inspected.
