Description
Three houses, numbers 19, 21, and 23, Victoria Place, were built in the early 1870s. They are constructed of calciferous sandstone ashlar, set on a chamfered plinth, and have stone-bracketed metal gutters. The roofs are slate, with original shared brick chimney stacks. The houses are two storeys high. Number 19 has two bays, while numbers 21 and 23 each have three bays.
Numbers 19 and 21 feature panelled doors with overlights, accessed by steps and within Tuscan doorcases. The ground-floor windows are tripartite, with eared architraves, keystones, and scroll decoration. Above these, the windows are sash windows. Those above the ground-floor windows are paired and feature eared architraves, bracketed sills, and a roundel feature above. Number 21 has a window positioned above the through-archway. Number 23, on the left, has a centrally placed panelled door with an overlight, within a pilastered doorcase with leaf capitals. It also has a tripartite window with segmental lights. The remaining sash windows are similar to those on the upper floor. The interiors have not been inspected.
Historical records indicate that the street was listed in the 1870 directory up to number 7, but by the 1873 directory, number 19 had been constructed. The terrace ends on the return bay of number 2, Spencer Street. Number 25 was previously listed but has since been demolished.
