Description
No. 2 Victoria Place is a house that has been converted into an office, built in the late 1830s. It is constructed from calciferous sandstone ashlar on a moulded plinth, featuring a string course, cornice, and a central parapet panel that ends in scrolled brackets. The return wall is made of Flemish bond brickwork. The roof is covered with graduated slate and has coped gables, along with original gable brick chimney stacks that have stone strings and caps.
The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-bay façade. The central entrance features a panelled door with an overlight, accessed by steps and sheltered by a prostyle Ionic porch. The windows are sash types without glazing bars, and there is a small cellar window on the left, all set in plain stone reveals above recessed aprons. The window above the entrance is larger, framed by a stone architrave with a cornice supported by console brackets.
The interior is believed to be similar to that of No. 1 Victoria Place, which is almost identical in detail. This property is noted in the 1841 census.
