Description
Burnfoot is a house dating from the late 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. It features painted incised rendered walls, a pilastered quoin to the left, and a string panel on a chamfered plinth. The roof is made of graduated greenslate and there is a brick chimney stack. The building is two stories high with a two-bay facade, while the rear has a double span with four bays. The entrance includes a panelled door beneath an intersecting glazing-bar fanlight, set within a Tuscan open-pedimented doorcase. Sash windows with glazing bars are present in painted stone surrounds. The rear wall is constructed of sandstone and includes sash windows with glazing bars, as well as a larger round-headed staircase window with intersecting glazing bars. The house was built around an earlier part of Burnfoot Cottage, which is adjacent and provides a side entrance. Burnfoot has group value with the adjoining St Ursula's Convent School.
