Description
The Artichoke Public House is a public house dating from 1680, as indicated by the datestone. It is constructed of regularly coursed lias stone and has a slate roof. The building originally likely had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high. The front features a two-window range of three-light stone mullioned windows with hood moulds. To the left, there is a single light fire window with a moulded stone surround. A cellar entrance is located to the right. Above the first-floor windows, the gables have ashlar parapets and kneelers, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and end. The datestone in the left gable features a clover leaf pattern. To the left, there is an extension with a two-window range of three-light stone mullioned windows, which is probably from the 19th century. A 19th-century door with a flat hood and a brick flight is situated to the right, along with 19th-century extensions to the rear.
