Description

Hillside is a pair of houses that have been combined into one dwelling, dating from the 17th century and 19th century, with remodeling in the 20th century. The 17th-century house on the right features a facade of uncoursed limestone and ironstone rubble, with a limestone banded with ironstone at the rear and side, squared ironstone quoins, and an artificial stone slate roof topped with a central stone stack. It has two storeys and an attic, comprising three bays. The ground floor has three 2-light casement windows with wood lintels, while the first floor has a one-light window with a wood lintel in the center, flanked by two 2-light casement windows with wood lintels. The gable end is coped, and there is a 20th-century dormer. On the right side, a 3-light stone mullioned window with a flat stone hood is located on the first floor, with a similar 2-light window in the attic. The entrance is in the left bay at the rear, featuring a wood lintel and a plank door, with a 3-light stone mullioned window to the right and a similar window on the first floor. Other windows are from the 19th and 20th centuries. The 19th-century house to the left has a facade of uncoursed limestone and ironstone rubble, a slate roof, and brick stacks. It has a central doorway with a 20th-century stone porch and a 6-panel door with an overlight, flanked by sash windows with stone lintels. There is a circular window in the center on the first floor, flanked by windows with stone lintels and 20th-century metal casements. Inside, the 17th-century house features an open fireplace, a bread oven, stop-chamfered spine beams, and a winder staircase, although most treads have been renewed.
