Description
The Former Post Office and Cottage is a house and cottage that has been combined into one dwelling, dating from the early 18th century. The left side, which was the post office, features coursed limestone rubble banded with ironstone and has a thatched roof with brick and stone stacks. It is two storeys tall and has three bays. The entrance to the shop, located in the second bay from the left, has a half-glazed plank door with a wooden lintel that extends over a three-light casement window to the left. The entrance to the dwelling is in the third bay from the left, featuring a wooden lintel, a plank door, and a timber lattice work porch with a thatched roof. To the right, there are two three-light casement windows with wooden lintels. The first floor has three-light windows with wooden lintels and old iron casements in the outer bays, while the central window has a three-light wooden casement and wooden lintel.
The cottage on the right is constructed from coursed and uncoursed ironstone rubble and also has a thatched roof, with a brick and stone stack to the left. This section is one storey and has an attic, comprising five bays. The entrance in the second bay from the right features a plank door with a wooden lintel that extends over flanking windows, including a two-light casement to the left and a four-pane one-light window to the right. There is a three-light casement window with a wooden lintel in the second bay from the left and a small one-light window with a wooden lintel in the left bay. An attic window to the left is a two-light casement with a wooden lintel, while a one-light four-pane window with a wooden lintel is located to the right. An extension to the right, likely a former outbuilding now serving as a garage, dates from the 18th century and uses similar materials. Two old wooden lintels from blocked openings remain above 20th-century plank sliding doors to the garage. The interior has not been inspected.
