Description

The Homestead is a house dated 1656, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and features a reed thatch roof with brick stacks at the ends and ridge. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, displaying a four-window range.

A plank door is located to the left of the centre, framed by a chamfered Tudor-arched stone surround. To the right of the door is a small staircase landing window with a moulded stone surround and lintel. The ground floor has two-light casement windows on the far left and to the right of the centre, while the remaining windows on both floors are three-light casements. The ground floor windows have rendered surrounds, and the first-floor windows feature wooden lintels, except for the right of centre window, which has moulded stone jambs and a lintel from an original stone mullion window.

Above, a gabled dormer contains a two-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window, with moulding at the base of the gable that forms a hood mould. A datestone inscribed M/HP/1656 is set into the gable, which has quoins and is topped with stone coping and kneelers. Inside, the house features stop-chamfered spine beams, a winder stair, and a collar-truss roof.
