Description

The Chase is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century with alterations made in the early 19th century, along with 19th and 20th-century additions. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and has a thatched roof with brick end stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring a two-window range.

To the right of the centre, there is a four-panel part-glazed door with a wooden lintel and a 19th-century gabled wooden porch. The ground and first floors have 24-pane sash windows with wooden lintels, and the first-floor window on the left has jambs from an original stone mullion window. There are also blocked one-light windows on the ground floor to the left and far right, both with moulded stone surrounds. A two-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window is located on the left gable, complete with a hood mould. The building features quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers.

To the right, there is a late 18th or early 19th-century granary or coach-house, which is now part of the living accommodation. This section has blocked segmental-arched openings on the ground floor and a 20th-century single-storey extension at the rear. Inside, the house contains aged stop-chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace, and a corner fireplace in an upstairs room that features a late 18th-century wooden fireplace surround and a late 18th or early 19th-century cast-iron grate.
