Description
The Cottage is a house dated 1696, constructed from coursed squared ironstone with a corrugated asbestos roof that has replaced the original thatch. It features brick end stacks on stone bases and has a three-unit plan. The building stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a four-window range. The central door, which is from the 20th century, is topped with a gabled tile hood supported by brackets. Above the door is a datestone inscribed with E/AH/1696. The windows are primarily two-light casements, with the exception of a small single-light window on the ground and first floors to the far left. The door and windows are adorned with timber lintels. To the left, there is a single-storey extension that has undergone many 20th-century alterations, including a modern back door. The gables are stone coped and feature kneelers. Inside, the property has stop-chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace with a bar-stop-chamfered bressumer, and a collar truss roof. Originally divided into two cottages, it was reunited around 1940.
