Description

Numbers 104 and 106, known as The Brave Old Oak Hotel, is a hotel and public house located on Watling Street in Towcester. Number 104 dates from the 17th century and features a timber-framed structure with applied timber on the front and a stuccoed ground floor. Number 106 is from the early 19th century and is also stuccoed. The roof of Number 106 is covered with old plain tiles, while Number 104 has a roof covered with 20th-century plain tiles.

The building has two storeys and an attic, with an eight-window range. Number 104 includes three canted bay windows on the ground floor, a 20th-century door to the left, and another door between two bays to the right of the center. A moulded wood cornice and fascia board runs above the doors and bays. The first floor features three-light leaded casement windows and two gabled roof dormers. Number 106 has 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and to the first floor, with narrow 8-pane sashes flanking the windows on either side of the center. The facade includes a plinth, a moulded string course at the first floor, pilastered strips at the center and ends of the first floor, an attic floor storey band, blank attic panels, a moulded cornice, and a plain stone-coped parapet. Inside, the building has chamfered spine beams.
