Description

The buildings at 29, 30, and 31 Saturday Market comprise a group of properties with origins dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Number 29 is an 18th-century building. Numbers 30 and 31 were likely built in the 17th century or earlier and were subsequently refronted in the 18th century. Number 30 retains timber-framing, with one post and a rear wallplate visible internally.

Number 29 is constructed of painted brick with a pantile roof, featuring a gabled dormer with sliding casement windows. The first floor has a sash window with exposed frame and glazing bars. The ground floor has a modern shop window with glazing bars and a wooden shop fascia with a rectangular fanlight. Number 30 is probably early 18th century, with later alterations. It has two windows with metal casements and is finished with limewashed brick and a pantile roof. Number 31 is two storeys and attic in painted stucco with a pantile roof and moulded brick coping. It has one window, a shop front with a wooden case, pilasters, a dentil entablature, and an entrance with a fanlight.

The interiors of numbers 30 and 31 contain two late 18th-century fireplaces, each featuring a fluted band below the cornices.
