Description
Number 23 on Saturday Market is a mid-18th century building that has been altered. It stands two storeys high with attics, constructed of brick that is roughly rendered and features applied half-timbering. The building has a slate roof and three dormer sash windows topped with moulded pediments. On the first floor, there are two very shallow canted bay windows with three lights each. The ground floor has a 19th-century shop front. Originally, there were two windows and two doors, adorned with fine pilasters featuring Corinthian capitals, a dentil cornice, and an entablature; however, one doorway has been converted into a window. To the left, there is a part-glazed door and a window with a modern door. Inside, the staircase has a closed string, plain newels, a handrail, but no balusters.
