Description

The Crown Hotel consists of two houses that have been converted into a public house and hotel. Number 21 is possibly from the 17th century and was refaced in the 18th century, while Number 23 dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. The buildings are finished in stucco with a tarred plinth, brick gable stacks, and an interlocking tiled roof. Number 23 has a double-depth plan, with Number 21 located to the right of the front.

The hotel is two storeys tall with an attic and features a three-window range for Number 21 and a four-window range for Number 23. Number 21 has a coped parapet, a plain doorway on the left with a 20th-century door, and 6/6-pane sash windows that are spaced towards the sides. It also includes two 20th-century gabled dormers.

Number 23 features a central doorway with a segmental arch and a shallow pediment, leading to a six-panel door. It has moulded cornices on carved brackets above the left-hand two-light plate-glass sashes and a right-hand three-light former shop window with cambered heads. The first floor includes a tripartite window with gauged flat brick arches, 6/6-pane sashes, and a central round-arched blind window with a keyed architrave, as well as second-floor 3/6-pane sashes. The rear has a north wing and central paired gables.

Inside, the ground-floor public house interior has been altered, while the upper lateral stair flight features stick balusters and column newels.
