Pair Of 4 Headstones Approximately 6 Metres South Of Chancel Of Church Of St John The Baptist

This is a pair of four headstones located approximately 6 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Upper Boddington. The headstones date from the late 17th century and early 18th century and are made of limestone ashlar.

From left to right, the first headstone is dated 1700 and features an open pediment with cherubs at the top and an illegible inscription panel. The second headstone, dated 1677, has an open pediment with a cherub at the top and a segmental pediment over a partially legible inscription panel. The third headstone displays a segmental pediment with a cherub at the top and figures flanking a partially legible inscription panel dedicated to the daughter of Edward and Mary Buckerfield. The fourth headstone features an open pediment with a cherub at the top and figures carrying branches flanking a partially legible inscription to Ann Buckerfield. The early 18th-century headstones are noted for their group value.
