Description
This is a row of six headstones located approximately 2 meters north of the north door of the chancel of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Upper Boddington. Dating from the late 17th century and early 18th century, the headstones are made of limestone ashlar.
From left to right, the first headstone features a cherub at the top, surrounded by scrolls and swags, with a partially legible inscription in an oval panel that has a scroll at the base. The second headstone is similar to the first. The third headstone is dated 1662 and has a scrolled head with a partially legible inscription in a recessed panel, along with a footstone that bears the initials AA. The fourth headstone also has a cherub at the top, surrounded by drapery and supporting figures, with foliage at the base and a partially legible inscription. The fifth headstone, dated 1659, features a scrolled top and a partially legible inscription in a recessed panel. The early 18th-century headstones are included for their group value with those from the late 17th century.
