Description

Nos. 31, 33, 35, and 37 on Sutton Street are a row of cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of coursed-squared ironstone with a thatched roof, featuring brick ridge and end stacks. The cottages are two stories high and form a six-window range.

No. 31 has been refronted in brick and whitewashed, with a 19th-century part-glazed door to the right. It features a gabled bargeboarded hood on brackets, a 2-light casement window to the left, and a 6-pane sash window to the far left, which has a cornice hood extending over a blocked door. The first floor has two 2-light leaded casement windows.

Nos. 33, 35, and 37 have similar doors with timber lintels. No. 33 has a small 4-pane window to the left of its door, while No. 35 features 9-pane sash windows with brick jambs and bar-stop-chamfered lintels on either side of its door, along with a blocked door to the right. No. 37 has a 6-pane sash window to the left of its door and a 12-pane sash window to the right. The first floors of Nos. 33 to 37 include 2 and 3-light casement windows set in eyebrow dormers. The right gable end has quoins and a brick gable. Notably, No. 33 has a bar-stop-chamfered spine beam and a collar truss roof.
