Description
Prospect House, along with its attached wall, is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble, with some squared ironstone, and features a slate roof with brick stacks at the ends and ridge. The building has two storeys and an attic, presenting a four-window range.
The entrance is through a four-panel part-glazed door located in a three-bay porch extension added in the 20th century, which is positioned to the right of the center. To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to extension from the 19th century. A small one-light casement window with a stone surround, moulded stone lintel, and hood mould is situated above the porch.
The gable to the right contains a blocked window with a hood mould at both the first floor and attic levels, featuring a sundial in between and a datestone in the gable above, inscribed with C/IH/1651. An additional coursed squared ironstone wall extends from the right angle, topped with tiled coping and incorporating a reset datestone from a blocked doorway inscribed WRE 169?.
Inside, the house features stop-chamfered beams and bears a pencilled inscription on the underside of a stair riser that reads: "1872 James Adams West Haddon," likely indicating the date of renovations when the house was converted into a row of two cottages, which have since been reunited.
