Description

The Old Bakehouse is a house dating from the 18th century, originally a row of cottages that has been converted into a single dwelling. It features coursed ironstone and limestone rubble, with a slate roof and brick stacks, forming an L-plan structure. The building has two storeys and five bays. The doorway, located in the second bay from the left, has a wood lintel, a plank door, and a gabled timber hood supported by brackets. There is a three-light casement window with a wood lintel in the left bay, and a similar window to the right of the entrance and in the right bay. The second bay from the right contains a two-light casement window with a wood lintel, while the right bay on the first floor has a one-light casement window with a wood lintel. The other first-floor windows are three-light casements, also with wood lintels. There is a wing extending from the right side along High Street, also from the 18th century and made of similar materials, which has two storeys and three bays, featuring a one-light window in the left bay on the first floor. The other windows in this wing are 20th century with concrete lintels. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
