Description
The Old School House is a building that was originally constructed as a school in 1789 for Lady Merial D'Anvers. It is made of ironstone ashlar and features a slate roof with flanking stone stacks. The structure has two storeys and an attic, arranged in four bays. The central doorway has a stone lintel and a four-panel part-glazed door with an overlight above it. On either side of the door, there are two sash windows with side lights and stone lintels. The first floor has three-light windows with stone lintels, old iron casements, and leaded panes. The gable ends are coped and include kneelers. At the center of the roof, there is an octagonal timber bell turret topped with a cupola and a weather vane. The interior has not been inspected. It was noted by D. Knowles that there was a stone on the west gable marked 'H. Ward, 1789', presumably indicating the builder, although this stone is no longer visible.
