Description
The Grange is a house, dated 1687, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is located on Station Road in Little Houghton. The house is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a 20th-century plain-tile roof and stone end stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys and an attic, with a two-window front range. To the right of centre is a blocked doorway with a moulded stone surround that has been partly cut by a four-light leaded casement window. The window has a central hollow-chamfered stone mullion, a hollow-chamfered stone surround, and a hood mould. A small, barred one-light window is to the left of the door at basement level, featuring a chamfered stone sill and lintel. A three-light hollow-chamfered stone mullion window is at mezzanine level with a hood mould. A two-light casement window is on the first floor to the right, with a hollow-chamfered stone surround. A datestone above the door is inscribed "1/RMl1687." A cross-wing projects to the left, built of coursed limestone, with a blocked window on the first floor and a two-light casement attic window to the gable. The front wing has a chamfered stone plinth, and both wings have stone-coped gables with kneelers. An attached outbuilding range to the right has a pantile roof. A large carriage arch is beside the main block, featuring a wood lintel, double-leaf plank doors, and a large round-head plank pedestrian gate to the left.
