Description

The Malting House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared ironstone, banded with limestone, and features a plain-tile roof from the 20th century with brick end stacks. The house has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a two-window range.

The central entrance consists of a four-panel door with round-headed upper panels, panelled reveals, and a wood surround that is both pilastered and pedimented. The ground floor has tripartite sash windows that are topped with moulded wood cornices, while the first floor features four-pane sash windows with side lights and wood lintels. To the right, there is a three-light cellar window with a chamfered stone mullion. The gables are stone-coped with kneelers, but this feature is only present on the right side. There are also a pair of 20th-century roof dormers.

To the right, a single-storey extension projects from the house, which includes a quartered sash window near the main structure with a wood lintel. To the left, a two-storey extension with one window projects, featuring tripartite sash windows on both the ground and first floors, also with wood lintels. Inside, the house has a stone-paved hall, spine beams—one boxed and the other with ogee stops—and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
