Description
The Old House is a 17th-century house, dated 1689, located on Meadow Lane in Little Houghton, and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with ironstone dressings, topped with a slate roof, and has stone end stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a three-window front range spanning two storeys and an attic. The central entrance features a plank door with two-panel mouldings, a moulded stone surround, a leaded overlight, and a straight hood supported by brackets. The ground and first floors are punctuated by two-light casement windows; the ground-floor windows have wood transoms, and all have ironstone jambs and stone lintels with key blocks. A two-light, wave-moulded stone mullion window illuminates the cellar to the right. Other details include ironstone quoins, a storey band, stone-coped gables with kneelers, and a datestone to the right gable inscribed "1689 IS/F". A full-height wing extends to the rear left, mirroring the window style. The interior includes a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters and a stone fireplace in a first-floor room featuring a four-centred head and cut spandrels.
