Description

A terrace of eight cottages situated on Potterspury High Street, dated 1840. The cottages are constructed of squared limestone with a hipped slate roof and brick ridge stacks. They form a two-story, sixteen-window range, and utilize a double-depth plan. Each cottage has a panelled, part-glazed door, except for the central one which is blank. The doors are set within chamfered jambs and stone lintels, and are accessed by two stone steps. The ground and first floors feature two-light Gothick casement windows, also with chamfered jambs and lintels. A central first-floor window has a Tudor-arched head and ornamental spandrels containing the inscription "ERECTED/1B40." The cottages feature a plinth, storey band, and overhanging eaves. The interiors have not been inspected. These were model cottages built by the Grafton estate and were referred to as "Factory Row," due to a local belief they were constructed as lace factory dwellings.
