Description
Greystone Lodge is a house built in the early to mid-19th century. It features a double-depth plan and is constructed from coursed squared limestone with a hipped slate roof and brick internal stacks. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range. The central bay slightly protrudes and includes double-leaf part-glazed panelled doors with panelled reveals and a reeded wood surround, all set within a later 19th-century gabled porch. The ground and first floors have 16-pane sash windows with flat-arched heads, and the eaves are overhanging. There are symmetrical pilastered wood canted bay windows on both the left and right sides. Inside, there is an open-well top-lit staircase featuring stick balusters and a steeply ramped mahogany handrail. The house was formerly known as Hill House and served as the residence of the land-agent for the Wakefield Lodge estate of the Dukes of Grafton.
