Description
Elmfield Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1700, with extensions added in 1741 and the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone and features a plain-tile roof with brick end stacks. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a five-window range. The layout is a two-unit central-staircase plan. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with an overlight, a wooden lintel, and a semi-circular hood supported by brackets. The ground and first floors have cross windows with stone lintels and keyblocks. The eaves are bracketed, and the gables are made of ironstone with copings and kneelers. To the right, there is a two-storey extension with a datestone facing the yard at the rear, inscribed "S/RE.1741". An early 19th-century two-storey wing is located at the rear left along High Street. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered spine beams, a dog-leg staircase with turned balusters on the lower flights, splat balusters on the first floor, and square newels topped with ball finials.
