Description

The Pound House is a house dating from 1594, with later work in 1709. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone and has a thatched roof. The house has a three-unit lobby-entry plan with a cross wing to the left. It is two storeys and an attic in height, with a five-window, irregular front. A 19th-century six-panelled door, now with a 20th-century hood, is located to the left of centre. Two sash windows with glazing bars are present at ground and first floor levels; those on the far left have flat arches with keystones. The remaining windows are two-light casements with a cross transom, leaded lights, and stone lintels. A central stone stack and a brick stack are visible. Datestones reading "1594" are set into the gable and "1709" above the entrance. There are pigeon nesting holes at the rear. Inside, an open fireplace with a bressumer is situated to the right of the entrance, and a butt purlin roof structure is also visible.
